 Health

Before applying review your current health and make an honest assessment of your current status. Look back at least 5 years and consider any health issues that you may have had. Review the Health Class Rating chart at the end of this article.

Age

The younger you are the less you will pay. So apply as soon as you can. The longer you wait the higher the cost. If you are a young adult you may want to consider a No Medical Exam Life insurance. It is easy to apply for and they will not require a full medical examination.  Read More – No Medical Exam Life Insurance Information.

Height / Weight

Make sure you are Height and Weight are in line with standard builds. See below for a Build Chart.

Stop Tobacco Use

To get a Preferred rating most carriers will require 3 – 5 years of no tobacco use. Some of my carriers will offer Non Smoking rates if you have stopped for at least 12 months. Be aware that they will included Nicotine gum as a Tobacco product.

Carriers – Shop around!

If you are not using an independent agent who deals with at least 60 carriers you may be missing out on the best rates. If you are getting a quote from a single insurance company then it is mandatory that you shop around.

Independent Agent

Make sure your agent is experienced in working with all areas of life insurance. If you happen to have a health impairment , high risk activity , etc. then you need to work with someone like me who has the experience to place these types of cases.

Bottom Line

Take all of the above into consideration, review your needs, review your monthly budget and then shop around for the best rates. Use someone like me who works with multiple carriers, has an in house underwriter and who can handle your business over the phone. Depending on your age you may want to consider a No Medical Exam.  At M2 Insurance we will work hard to find the best life insurance plan that fits your budget and meets your needs.
